Domokos Neagu Sarbu has successfully represented Alpiq in a tax dispute with the Romanian tax authority in a case that ultimately required the input of the Romanian Supreme Court.

Alpiq is a Swiss electricity producer offering services in the fields of energy generation and marketing as well as energy optimisation.

According to the firm, after a lengthy legal process, the team obtained a positive outcome: "the Romanian Supreme Court recently upheld the judgment of the competent administrative court in favor of Alpiq Energy SE, Prague, bringing closure to a dispute that began back in 2017."

"Following a thorough tax audit spanning several years, the Romanian ANAF tax authority demanded a substantial sum from Alpiq Energy SE," Domokos Neagu Sarbu reported. "The journey wasn’t easy, with legal battles and appeals, but the persistence of all lawyers and tax experts involved in the case paid off. The Supreme Court’s decision, delivered on March 27, 2024, affirmed the earlier judgment in Alpiq's favor."

The Domokos Neagu Sarbu team was led by Managing Partner Emeric Domokos.

Editor's Note: After this article was published, Schoenherr announced that it had advised Alpiq as well. The firm's team included Managing Partner Sebastian Gutiu and Managing Attorney at Law Nora Olah. According to the firm, Reff & Associates (Deloitte Legal) and Bancila, Diaconu & Asociatii (EY Law) were also a part of the consortium of firms advising on the matter.
